Atlanta Mission (2011)

“We often have the idea to give the poor a little better than they have, no I want to give them what I’ve got,” said Jim Reese, President/CEO of the Atlanta Mission. And he is working to do just that and so much more.

Opening in 1938 to help those in the midst of the Great Depression, the Atlanta Mission has been serving the less fortunate for almost 73 years. In the last year alone, 982 people have come to Christ and 542 people from within the Mission received jobs. Last night over 1,000 men stayed at The Shepherd’s Inn. Evident by the exuberant praise and worship taking place below us, the Atlanta Mission takes every opportunity to “celebrate steps of courageous faith.”

In addition to The Shepherd’s Inn on Ivan Allen Boulevard, 269 women and children gather daily at My Sister’s House on Howell Mill Road. “Fuqua Hall consists of 92 single unit apartments for clients who volunteer, work fulltime and/or attend school. The transitional housing program is a minimum of six months and graduation depends on successful completion of client and program goals.”  And located in Jefferson, Georgia the Potter’s House “offers a long-term discipleship program to more than 180 chemically addicted men."

This holiday season if you are searching for a place to give back, experience genuine joy and a reminder of the Ultimate Gift we have been blessed with join the Atlanta Mission in helping those whose holiday season is very different than your own. Take time to join in the celebration of courageous faith!
