Carver Bible College (2006)

Carver Bible College is true to its namesake, Christian and scientist George Washington Carver. It was evident when hearing from the president Robert Crummie, faculty, and some of the many students who joined us at CityLights last Tuesday that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is at the heart of the school.

Carver is having an incredible year. The four-year undergraduate institution was fully accredited in February by the Association of Biblical Higher Education, giving them credentials to accept federal financial aid, for graduates to apply to master’s programs, and for Carver credits to be transferable.

Just as the initial excitement of the accreditation was ending, Carver sold its 2.5 acre facilities of fifty years near the Georgia Dome to purchase a 15 acre campus off Cascade Road in Southwest Atlanta. The move was a transformation from water to wine, as their former campus was crowded and in need of much repair, while the new campus, formerly the Atlanta Adventist Academy, has finished classroom space for five hundred students and room for expansion with ten acres of undeveloped woods. As Carver grows, they hope to build new on-campus student housing, dining, and more athletic facilities. It is just a matter of time before Carver reaches its current capacity of 500 students.

As important as the physical facilities are, Rev. Crummie and his staff’s passion lies in equipping their current student body of about 130 with character, knowledge of Scripture, and ministry skills to prepare them for life and ministry. Their driving vision, for Carver to be a premiere Bible college in America, seems to be within their reach.

If you have not seen the new Carver campus, make a visit and see what God has done. For more information about Carver, please see the website www.carver.edu.
