Create Your Dreams (2005)

Create Your Dreams it is a stimulating place. Windows cover one wall of the large room in the King Plow Arts Center. There are comfy couches, computers, art supplies, and a kitchen. Add the fact that the students are greeted by caring staff, and it's no wonder that their fifty students return to Create Your Dreams week after week and year after year.

The aim of Create Your Dreams is to build relationships with students in the third grade facing poverty who have leadership and academic skills and walk with them through high school and even into college. As the students participate in the after school programs, tutoring, career planning, and special events, they learn not only that they are special, but also that they can make their dreams come true.

Since Create Your Dreams was founded in 1994, twenty students have graduated from high school and are pursuing higher education or a specialized trade. Create Your Dreams is unique from other important after school programs in that it focuses on a few children from each grade throughout their educational careers.

Volunteers are welcome to work with students in a variety of capacities, from college mentoring, job shadowing, planning a field trip, or sharing a special skill. Please go to www.createyourdreams.org for more information.
