SafeHouse Outreach 2005 Update
SafeHouse has been serving people experiencing personal brokenness since 1983. At CityLights Tuesday morning, SafeHouse president Philip Bray gave an overview of SafeHouse Outreach.
The Problem Solvers ministry serves the homeless in Atlanta with transitional placement, reunification of families, temporary addresses, telephone use, and transportation assistance. Over 2000 phone calls to reconnect with home have been made, 1011 people have been provided mail service, and over 723 people have received job or housing referrals in 2005. The goal of Problem Solvers is to provide a hand-up, not just a hand-out, for people who are trying to improve hard situations in their lives.
Church on the Street, another part of SafeHouse, has 23 worship services a week for street dwellers, the addicted, and any other person looking for hope. Local churches provide meals at these meetings, which take place not only at SafeHouse, but also under bridges and in parks, right where the people are. So far this year, 131,733 meals have been served by 4,327 volunteers.
A newer focus for SafeHouse is the Family Resource Center. The Family Resource Center provides crisis intervention for pregnant teens, parenting classes, and mentoring. By helping one person at a time, the Center changes families, who in turn improve communities.
SafeHouse thrives on volunteer support and has a history of creating volunteer opportunities that put compassion into action. Go to www.safehouseoutreach.com to learn more about how you can get involved.
